22 February 2016-Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua personally handed over the Embassy’s in-kind donation for the families affected by fires that hit Namhsan, Northern Shan State and Labutta, Ayeyawaddy Region.
The Embassy’s contribution to the relief operations, consisting of clothes, blankets and towels, was received by Relief and Resettlement Yangon Department Director U Kyi Thar, in a handover ceremony, held at the Central Warehouse of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Mayangone, Yangon, on February 19.
The two fires that broke out on February 04 left about 300 families in Namhsan, Northern Shan State and some 200 families in Labutta, Ayeyawaddy Region homeless.
It is feared that more fires may likely break out in Myanmar this year as El Nino, possibly the strongest on record, is expected to hit Myanmar in the first half of this year. END
