26 February 2016 - A team from the Philippine Embassy in Ankara conducted the Embassy's monthly mission in Istanbul from February 20 to 21. The Embassy team provided consular services to more than 76 Filipinos in Istanbul. The consular team processed 14 ePassport applications for renewals and two applications for the replacement of lost valid e-passports, four report of births, two report of marriages, issued seven notarial documents, released four certifications, 15 voter's ID, 10 ePassports, and five yellow cards, processed one application for marriage license, and attended to seven (assistance-to-nationals (ATN) cases. Consul General Robert O. Ferrer, Jr. also led a Filipino couple in their civil marriage ceremony, witnessed by about 20 guests.
The event also commemorated EDSA 30 by showing video-clippings of the ‘Baliktanaw’ EDSA ’86 short documentary and a separate documentary on the West Philippine Sea. Videos of the popular People Power Revolution songs ‘Magkaisa’ and ‘Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo’ were also shown.
A day before the consular services mission, the Team met with a group of 11 Filipino students who are studying in different colleges and universities in Istanbul. The Team briefed the students on the latest political and economic developments in the Philippines and Post's projects as well as activities to promote the three-pillars of Philippine Diplomacy. They were also briefed on the West Philippine Sea and the status of the Bangsamoro peace process
The Embassy's ATN Officer visited a Filipino inmate, Nancy Dolor Yapici at Bilecik Prison in Bilecik, Turkey. The team also visited Filipino seaman Rogemieh Init Tigley at Medicana Hospital in Çamlica, Istanbul (Asian side). Mr. Tigley suffered from mild heart attack and had coronary bypass surgery. He is now stable and recovering from the surgery. END
