TEL AVIV EDSA

26 February 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv commemorated the 30th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution in a solemn ceremony on February 25 at the embassy grounds.

A flag-raising ceremony was held, followed by the reading of the message of President Benigno S. Aquino III to the Filipino people and a message by Philippine Ambassador to Israel Neal Imperial.

In his speech, Ambassador Imperial shared his memories and thoughts as a participant at the EDSA People Power Revolution and how the event has changed the history of the Philippines and inspired other countries worldwide to overthrow the yoke of authoritarian rule:

"The People Power Revolution was a seminal event in Philippine history that triggered a wave of democratization worldwide.  We have every reason to be proud of this revolutionary heritage made possible by the sacrifices and heroism of those who suffered and perished during Martial Law, including the invaluable contribution of Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. and President Corazon Aquino."

Faithful to the revolutionary spirit of EDSA 1986, the Embassy ended the program with the singing of "Bayan Ko" and other ‘80s songs that marked the EDSA People Power Revolution and the end of the martial law era. END
