RIYADH EDSA1 March 2016- The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh commemorated the 30th Anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution with a program on 25 February 2016 held at the Liwasang Bonifacio Philippine Embassy Grounds.

This year’s theme is “EDSA 30: Pagbabago Ipinaglaban N’yo, Itutuloy Ko,” where the torch symbolizing the gains of EDSA is now being handed to the young generation of Filipinos who today enjoy the hard-earned freedom and democracy borne from the EDSA People Power Revolution.

The program was attended by Philippine Embassy personnel and representatives from Philippine-curriculum Schools in Riyadh.

First Secretary and Consul Christopher Patrick T. Aro read the message of President Benigno S. Aquino III. In the President’s message, he called on the generations of Filipinos not to forget what the 1986 People Power Revolution fought for and for them to continue to unite and fight for the Philippines. “In this way, our country will rise prosperous and renewed for the future,” Consul Aro said.

Three student representatives from Elite International School, Future Generation Philippine International School and International Philippine School Riyadh, showed their outstanding talent in public speaking through a declamation piece answering the question, “Protecting the Gains of EDSA: My Contribution as a Filipino Youth.”

Grade school students from the International Philippine School in Riyadh also sang “Tara Na, Kanta Na, Pilipinas” and “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas.” Students from the Future Generation Philippine International School sang “Handog ng Filipino sa Mundo,” the famous theme song of EDSA People Power Revolution.

The program ended with a meaningful message from Consul Aro which emphasized that change can be achieved through peaceful ways and the importance of instilling among Filipinos a concern for one another and for them to not lose their love for their country. END
