ABU EDSA

02 March 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi celebrated the 30th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25 at the Chancery. In a simple ceremony, officers and staff of the Embassy, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Social Security System (SSS), together with members of the Filipino community in Abu Dhabi, sang the Philippine national anthem and pledged allegiance to the Philippine flag.

In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Constancio R. Vingno, Jr., recalled the historic event that took place thirty years ago, when the Filipino masses took to the streets and gathered at EDSA to strongly express their clamor for change in the country’s leadership. “We can draw lessons from what we are commemorating here today,” he said.

Stressing that people are in a position to chart the future of their country, Ambassador Vingno urged the members of the Filipino community to cast their votes in the forthcoming elections in order that their voices will be heard.

Videos and songs related to the EDSA People Power Revolution were played at the Embassy waiting area for the public’s appreciation. The Embassy’s Consular Section was open on February 25 to accommodate passport applicants and render services. END
