04 March 2016 – The Philippine Center New York in Manhattan was painted yellow as officers, staff and clients of the Philippine Consulate General celebrated the 30th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution last February 26.
The day started with the symbolic uncurling of the “EDSA 30: Pagbabago Ipinaglaban Nyo, Itutuloy Ko” banner at the show window of the Philippine Center along Fifth Avenue. Filipinos availing consular services at the Consulate General, as well as community members, joined the ceremony led by Consul General Mario De Leon, Jr. In the afternoon, the officers and staff garbed in EDSA yellow motif gathered at the lobby for a souvenir photograph.
The day’s events are a prelude to a bigger commemoration of EDSA Anniversary in partnership with the College of Mount Saint Vincent to be held in April 26 in the College premises. Former President Corazon C. Aquino graduated from the College in Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) in 1953. Lectures by a Filipino-American history professor and a prominent journalist, as well as a photo exhibit are being organized to highlight the centerpiece event designed to attract students and alumni of CMSV, Filipino-American student groups in the New York and New Jersey area, and members of the Filipino-American community.
