10 March 2016 - The main office of the Port Authority of Manzanillo was the venue for the meeting of Philippine Ambassador Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. and the ASEAN Ambassadors in Mexico with Vice Admiral Jorge Bustos Espino, Director General of the Port Authority of Manzanillo.
During the meeting, Vice Admiral Bustos gave the ASEAN Ambassadors an overview of port operations and emphasized the importance of the Port of Manzanillo in the maritime shipping routes in and out of the territory of Mexico.
The strategic location of the Port of Manzanillo and the existence of good road and rail infrastructure to and from Manzanillo are the main reasons why it is the preferred port facility in Mexico. Also, the ongoing modernization of the port as a result of the huge investment by the Philippine company, International Container Terminal Services, Inc. in the development of its local firm, Contecon Manzanillo, for the operation of the second Specialized Container Terminal is a major factor in the preference of businesses to use the Port of Manzanillo for their shipping requirements.
After the meeting, a tour of the Port of Manzanillo was conducted by officers from the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transport, who oversee operations of the Port of Manzanillo.
Part of the tour was the onsite visit to Contecon Manzanillo, with a guided tour by Mr. Jorge Kogakis, Contecon’s Chief Operating Officer and Commercial and Operations Director. Mr. Kogakis informed the ASEAN delegation that upon completion of the last phase (CY 2021 to CY 2025) of the development project of Contecon Manzanillo, the total land area of the company will be 77 hectares with about 1,080 meters of seafront.
