15 March 2016 – In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo hosted a seminar to familiarize Filipinos about the services offered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for migrant workers in Egypt.
The Direct Assistance Unit of IOM Egypt provides medical attention, socio-economic support and Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) services for vulnerable migrant workers. IOM Egypt also partners with other organizations to supplement its service offerings.
During the event, representatives from IOM Egypt also conducted a briefing and exercise on identifying victims of trafficking in persons (VOT). VOTs, under international conventions and Egypt’s own law against trafficking in persons, should be treated as victims and should not be prosecuted.
The seminar is the Embassy’s first Gender and Development (GAD) activity for the year. END
