17 March 2016 – Ms. Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific Vice President for Marketing and Distribution, and Ms. Blessie Cruz, Director of Advertising and Promotions, called on Philippine Consul General to Agana Marciano R. de Borja at the Philippine Consulate General ahead of the arrival of the maiden flight of the carrier’s Manila-Guam-Manila service.
During the call, Consul General De Borja welcomed the launch of Cebu Pacific’s 30th international route and first ever to a US destination. He shared with Cebu Pacific executives the historical ties the Philippines has long had with Guam and how the four-times weekly flights of the airline will help enhance connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.
At the inaugural ceremony near the check-in counters of Cebu Pacific in the Guam A.B. Won Pat International Airport, Consul General de Borja said that competitive air cargo rates to be offered by Cebu Pacific will hopefully allow Philippine exporters greater access to the market in Guam, which should not be viewed just in terms of the 160,000 domestic population but also in terms of the more than one million Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Russian tourists that visit the island.
For his part, Guam Governor Eddie Baza Calvo underscored the fact that many Guamanians, including his own family, already travel to the Philippines due to their familial ties. The introduction of Cebu Pacific’s new Manila-Guam-Manila service, he said, will expectantly make airfares more affordable and allow more frequent visits not just to the Philippines but also to Guam.
The inaugural flight from Manila arrived an hour ahead of schedule, while Mr. Antonio Aguilar, the lucky early flyer who was first in line at the check-in counter, arrived three hours ahead of the scheduled departure time of the Guam-Manila flight, and was rewarded with a free round-trip ticket to Manila.
