14 March 2016 – The Philippine Consulate General in Macau SAR concluded its activities for Women’s Month with a seminar focusing on mental health and well-being held in St. Joseph the Worker Parish Activity Hall on March 13.

The seminar, entitled, “Coping Strategies for Migrant Workers,” was conducted by Dr. Brian J. Hall, a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Macau. Dr. Hall discussed common psychological health issues often encountered by migrants like depression and generalized anxiety. He also shared the results of a study carried out last year by the Global and Community Health Research Group of the University of Macau, which focused on stressors encountered by Filipino domestic workers.

During the open forum, Kababayans shared their stories and tips on settling in and facing challenges abroad. It was noted that most of the participants in Macau mentioned that they get support from religious groups, community organizations, NGOs, and the Consulate General.

During the event, the Consulate General also held awarding ceremonies for two Filipinas, Ms. Remedios Alcantara Frontreras Salamanes and Ms. Rachelle Pojas Magturo, to acknowledge their resilience and hard work, as well as their contributions to the Filipino community in Macau. END
