25 September 2013 - Officers of the Philippine Consulate General in Guam, led by Consul Edgar Tomas Auxilian, met on September 24 with officials of the US Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to discuss further both agencies' plans to formalize an alliance for the benefit of Filipino workers on Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
The OSHA delegation, led by Director Galen Lemke of the OSHA Honolulu Area Office, and the Consulate's officials discussed potential areas of cooperation and collaboration, including OSHA's possible participation in the Consulate's outreach programs for Filipino workers.
Both Director Lemke and Administrator Anthony Anderson of the OSHA Consultation office in Guam, expressed willingness to participate particularly in the Consulate’s semi-annual Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar, which seek to provide Filipino workers with relevant information on existing labor regulations in Guam.
Consul Auxilian and Director Lemke also affirmed both parties' commitment to work more closely with one another toward facilitating the signing of the alliance agreement between the two offices. END
