18 March 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain launched the 2016 Women’s Month celebration with a simple program at the Embassy lobby on March 10, which was attended by the wards of the Embassy shelter, representatives of Filipino communities, and the personnel of the Embassy and its attached agencies. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda!”
During the program, the Women’s Month banner was unfurled, followed by Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver delivering his welcome remarks. The Ambassador also announced the activities lined up for Women’s Month, as prepared by Welfare Officer Priscilla M. Flores and Atty. Emily C. Villanueva-Descallar. These include a forum on Trafficking in Persons and Women’s Rights in Bahrain / LMRA Shelter on March 17, a film showing on March 22, and a flag-raising ceremony in celebration of Women with Disabilities Day on March 28. The Embassy is also hosting Zumba classes every other Saturday, beginning March 12.
To cap the program, Labor Attaché Cynthia Q. Lamban delivered the closing remarks, which included a community recitation of the poem entitled “Para sa Bawat Babae.” END
