22 March 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully held the film screening of Heneral Luna on February 21 at the Consulate General’s Bulwagang Bagumbayan attended by Filipino communities of Xiamen and Quanzhou cities led by Manila-Xiamen International School (MXIS) teachers, officers of the two Filipino organizations in Fujian Province – the Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX) and the Filipinos in China (FINCH) based in Quanzhou City, and the Consulate General’s officers and staff.

Consul General Julius Caesar Flores expressed his appreciation to Ms. Daphne Chiu, Line Producer of Artikulo Uno Productions that produced Heneral Luna. Consul General Flores bared plans to hold more screenings of Filipino films (including the other Artikulo Uno films namely, K’na, the Dreamweaver and Bonifacio), as part of the Consulate General's cultural diplomacy thrusts, and widening its viewership including the Chinese public.

The film was well-received by the Filipinos who felt enriched with their knowledge of Philippine history and demonstrated their full enthusiasm during the engaging Q&A with Ms. Chiu.

Prior to the film screening, a short and simple ceremony was held relaunching the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal with Ms. Chiu reading the Certificate of Establishment issued by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The Consulate General’s Sentro Rizal was earlier launched on June 20, 2014.

A painting of Gen. Antonio Luna done by Filipino Visual artist Rene Robles was also unveiled to form part of the Consulate General’s Sentro Rizal collection of cultural and historical memorabilia. END
