23 March 2016 - The Philippine Embassy joined representatives from Singapore, Turkey, Germany and Spain and prepared food that best represented Filipino culture during the Global Potluck, “Come, Let’s Eat”, held on March 19 at the Turkish Cultural Centre in Bukit Timah. Local students, as well as media representatives and food bloggers were present to partake of the multi-cultural cuisine
The event is a final year cultural project of Chris Lim Mu Yao, Ng Jian Yang, Magnus Pang and Jay Yeo, a group of undergraduate students from Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI). The event aims to promote multiculturalism among young Singaporeans by learning different cultures through food.
The Philippines’ share included, kare kare with bagoong and leche flan prepared by Welfare Officer Rosanna Siray, champorado, and paksiw with garlic rice by Ms. Loida Corpus, and ginataang banana with root crops by Ms. Chona Pagsinohin. The participants were on-hand to answer queries and to demonstrate how the different dishes were best eaten.
The Guestof Honor was Ms. Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Finance. The Philippine Embassy was represented by Vice Consul Laarni Zorayda Gandarosa and Cultural Officer Rowena H. Sacristia.
The program also included a short introduction and background on different cuisines. Philippine food expert, Ms. Loida Corpus, shared the origin of all the Filipino dishes that were presented. An art demonstration on Turkish Water Marbling was also held during the program. END
