26 September 2013 – The Heads of the diplomatic missions of ASEAN member countries in Oman commemorated the 46th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN by hosting an ASEAN Day reception at the Intercontinental Hotel Muscat on September 16.
The Embassies of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand spearheaded the event.
The ASEAN Day reception, which was a first in Muscat, was highlighted by the presence of Omani Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, who was the guest of honor for the occasion. The reception was also attended by more than 200 guests from the diplomatic community, Omani government, private sector and the ASEAN community.
In his welcome remarks, Indonesian Ambassador and ASEAN Committee in Muscat (ACM) Chairman Sukanto underscored the significant role of ASEAN in the growth and development of its member states and promoted Southeast Asia as one of the most stable and dynamic regions in the world, making it an attractive place to invest.
