29 March 2016 - The Philippine Embassy in Santiago, Chile held a “Women’s Forum” on March 19 at the Club de la Union in Santiago to celebrate National Women’s Month. The Embassy invited three Filipino women who have been living and working in Chile for more than 10 years to share their experiences in adjusting to different cultures, dealing with labor-related issues, and building support groups within the community.
The Forum highlighted the courage and determination of Filipino women, and the remarkable strength of character they possess that has been instrumental in building a secure future for their families.
More than 70 members of the Filipino community attended the Forum.
The event ended with a closing remark from Chargé d’affaires Ms. Raisa Mabayo, who thanked the resource speakers and the Filipino community for their participation. She also stressed the importance of the need for the participants to strengthen their networks within the Filipino community. There are currently more than 350 members of the Filipino community in Santiago, with the numbers increasing rapidly since 2014. END
