26 September 2013 - The new envoy of Estonia to Poland, Ambassador Eerik Marmei, visited the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw last September 12 and met with Ambassador Patricia Ann V. Paez whose jurisdiction also covers Estonia.
During their talks, Ambassador Marmei discussed Estonia’s accomplishments, innovations, and priorities in the fields of information technology and communications (ICT) and cyber security.
Attesting to Estonia’s expertise in these fields are its hosting of the NATO Cooperative Defence Center of Excellence (CCDCOE), which is responsible for protecting Alliance servers, and of the EU Agency for Large- Scale IT Systems, which manages all data about travel to the Schengen area.
Ambassador Paez raised the possibility of cooperation in the fields of cyber security between the Philippines and Estonia.
The two envoys also discussed partnerships in the areas of education, particularly in biotechnology and the physical sciences, as well as in tourism promotion. Estonia participates in the Erasmus Mundis program and already has education agreements with many countries, including the Philippines.
Ambassador Marmei said that there is a rising interest in Southeast Asia in Estonia, stemming from the region’s importance in world affairs and due to the trade opportunities that it offers. END
