01 April 2016 – In celebration of the 2016 National Women’s Month, Ambassador Joseph Gerard B. Angeles hosted a gathering for personnel and guests of the Philippine Embassy in Pretoria on March 29. Ambassador Angeles thanked all who attended for their support of the Embassy’s efforts in promoting Gender and Development (GAD).
The Embassy’s GAD focal person, Vice Consul Marie Cris Chieng, gave a short talk about Gender and Development, where she emphasized the government’s commitment to GAD. She also highlighted the achievements made by the Philippines in promoting GAD and in striving to reach gender equality across all sectors of society and cited the Philippines’ continuously high-ranking in the World Economic Forum’s Annual Global Gender Gap Survey, where the country consistently ranked among the top 10 in the survey, making the Philippines a leader in Asia-Pacific in closing the gender gap.
