06 April 2016 – In support of the Embassy’s campaign to promote awareness of economic and tourism developments in the Philippines to the Spanish market, the Philippine Embassy in Madrid successfully led a conference on Philippine investment and tourism opportunities for Spanish business in the Autonomous Region of Andalucia on March 30 at the Parque Tecnológico de Andalucia (PTA) in Malaga.

Mr. Felipe Romera, PTA’s Director, acknowledged the efforts of the Embassy and the Philippine Consulate in Malaga in organizing the said conference in Malaga. He further commented that the conference is a very good step in promoting the country’s investment and tourism potentials.

The presentation of Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos C. Salinas underlined that the strong bilateral relations currently existing between Spain and the Philippines boosts economic and tourism growth. He also noted that, today, there are more Spanish businesses and tourists that go to the Philippines.

Ambassador Salinas also highlighted the potential of the Philippines as a gateway for Europe to Southeast Asia, especially now that the ASEAN Economic Community has already been established. He strongly emphasized that the strategic geographic location of the Philippines, as well as its historical and cultural ties with Spain, will certainly make it easy for Spanish companies to establish business in the Philippines. 

The presentation was very well received by the audience and was followed by a Q&A.

The Chamber of Commerce of Malaga also took the opportunity to request the assistance of the Embassy in organizing a trade mission to the Philippines which it plans to convene sometime in September 2016. END
