LA VOTER

08 April 2016 – The Philippine Consulate General conducted its Overseas Voters’ Education Forum for the Filipino community and members of the press at the community hall on April 04.

Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Leo Herrera-Lim, in his remarks, welcomed the attendees and provided a brief background about the new system being adopted for the 2016 OV - Philippine national elections.

He informed participants that the Consulate General is working to mail the ballots to the registered addresses of those outside the state, and that they have started mailing ballots to those in the states of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Southern Nevada.

The ballots for overseas voters with registered addresses within Southern California will be mailed to them starting the 3rd week of April. The Consul General also informed overseas voters in the Southern California that they may drop by the Consulate to cast their votes personally.

Consul General Herrera-Lim’s remarks was followed by video presentations about the postal voting and personal voting process, which provided a visual overview about how the voters will cast their ballots starting April 09.

The instructional videos were followed by video messages of the candidates for the Filipino American community, provided by the Embassy. The public and members of the media present were requested to refrain from streaming, distributing and posting the said videos online.

The program concluded with a Q&A forum. Most of the questions raised were on the procedural elements of the new voting process. Information about the overseas voting, including profiles of candidates and instructional videos, are available at the Consulate General’s website at www.philippineconsulatela.org. END
