12 April 2016 - The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam opened the 2016 National Elections for overseas Filipinos on April 09.
Voting started exactly at 8:00 AM and the first voter was Mr. Zaldy Padolina, an electrical engineer who has been an OFW in Brunei since 1988.
Mr. Padolina was already at the Embassy since 7:00 a.m. “I am excited to vote during this election because I am retiring soon,” he said. He added, “I would like the Philippines to become more stable so that even retirees like me will be given livelihood opportunities for the sake of our families.”
Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Meynardo LB. Montealegre encouraged all registered voters in Brunei to cast their votes. “Overseas Filipinos should take this opportunity to express their will. They should participate in this democratic exercise, which will mold the future of our nation,” the Ambassador said.
The Embassy will be open for Overseas Voting for a month, from April 09 to May 09, daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., without noon break, including holidays and weekends. There are 10,142 Filipino registered voters in Brunei Darussalam. Voting will end on May 09, 5:00 p.m. END
