geneva youth voter 1

13 April 2016 – Two Filipino youth came to the Voting Center of the Philippine Mission/Philippine Consulate in Geneva on April 09, the first day of the month-long overseas voting, to cast their ballots.

Monique Ann Valdez, 18, and, Paula Marie Valdez, 23, were the first youth voters of the Consulate.

“I feel accomplished after casting my ballot. It makes me feel that it helped the future of the Philippines find its leaders,” Monique Ann said when asked about how she felt after casting her ballot.

“I am very delighted as a Filipino to be part of this event. It is important to practice your right as a Filipino. It makes me feel very happy and proud,” said Paula Marie.

The siblings said they have thought hard and did their research in deciding who to vote for in the elections.

When asked to give a message to fellow Filipino youth who are qualified to vote, Paula said, “Let’s get involved and practice our right to vote.”

Monique stressed, “I want to tell the other youth that they should research, and not just rely on social media, when deciding who to vote for.”

Fellow youth, let’s get involved!” remarked Paula and Monique.

“We are very proud to witness that young voters are actively taking part in this election.  We continue to encourage all registered Filipino voters in Geneva and Vaud to cast their ballots and let their voices be heard in this election,” Consul General Enrico T. Fos said.

There are a total of 2,334 certified Filipino voters at the Consulate, which has jurisdiction over Geneva and Vaud. END
