15 April 2016 - Design Philippines continues its mission of promoting the best of the Philippines with its participation at the 55th Salone del Mobile or Milan Design Furniture Fair.
For six days each spring, designers descend on Milan for the city’s annual furniture trade fair, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile. More than 300,000 visitors from 160 countries and 2,100 exhibitors are expected at this year’s event to be held from April 12 to 17.
The Design Philippines Pavilion designed by the famous artist Budji Layug, featured four Philippine design companies this year – Atelier of Cebu, A. Garcia Crafts, Maze Manufacturing Co. Inc. and Zacarias 1925. Exhibiting under the Design Philippines branding initiative of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the four participants hope to position the Philippines as a sourcing destination for finely crafted products for the world market. Red Box Design Development Grand Winner Kristel Blancas was also featured and her award-winning hanging lamps made of resin.
Now in its 55th year, Milan’s annual Furniture Fair – the most important of its kind globally, is where designers show off their new product designs and latest innovations.
The Philippine Consulate General in Milan headed by Philippine Consul General to Milan Marichu Mauro continues to lend support to Design Philippines and the participating designers. She thanked each and every one of them for participating and for making the Philippines proud with their designs which are world class. She reiterated her commitment to them to help and support their endeavors in their venture into the Italian market. END
