23 April 2016 – More Filipinos in Bahrain are making sure their voices will be heard this election. Fifteen days into the month-long overseas voting period, over 3,000 thus far have cast their ballots at the Philippine Embassy in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, or roughly 20% out of the 18,497 total number of registered Filipino overseas voters.

 

In a bid to mobilize more Filipino community members to participate in this year’s elections, Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver has written and circulated a letter soliciting the leaders of Filipino associations assistance in encouraging their members to go out and vote. Ambassador Ver is also making the rounds during Filipino community gatherings and events to persuade those registered overseas voters to exercise their right to vote ahead of the last day of voting on May 09.

 

Local newspaper, Guam Daily News, also featured an article on 23 April 2016 regarding the turnout of Filipino overseas voters. In the article Ambassador Ver took the opportunity to announce to kababayans in ahrain  that they may vote in the Embassy.

 

The Philippine Embassy remains open every day in order to accommodate those who wish to cast their ballots for the elections. Voting hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during weekdays (Sundays to Thursdays) and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends (Fridays and Saturdays). Conduct of overseas voting will continue until 12 noon of Monday, May 09. END
