25 April 2016 – The Office of the Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agriculture Modernization (OPAFSAM) and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) visited India from March 31 to April 04 to study India’s best practices in irrigation development. Included in the delegation were OPAFSAM Secretary Fredelita C. Guiza, NIA Administrator Florencio F. Padernal, and NIA officials Engr. Romeo M. Lopez and Engr. Bayani P. Ofrecio.
During the visit, the delegation met with the Chairman of Central Water Commission (CWC), officials from the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), and the Indian Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resource where they were given briefings on irrigation and water resources management and National Water Policy of India among others.
The delegation, moreover, visited the Haryana Irrigation Research and Management Institute, the Bhakra Water System and interlinking systems at Moonak, Haryana, and the Indo-Israel Farm Centers of Excellence for vegetables and fruits. The delegation also attended the inaugural function of India Water Week 2016. END
