Heneral Luna1

26 April 2016 - On April 23, the Philippine Embassy in Berne successfully held a public screening of the critically acclaimed historical epic film, “Heneral Luna,” at the Cinemovie1, Seilerstrasse 4, in downtown Berne. Around a hundred people from the Filipino community, diplomatic corps and Swiss nationals, and Embassy personnel, attended the film showing.

Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland Joselito A. Jimeno introduced the movie by describing General Antonio Luna as a young man of science who finished his studies in Spain and studied military science in Belgium to become a hero who showed great love for his country.

The movie, which stimulated the viewers’ nationalistic and historical awareness, was well-received and was applauded by the audience. The film garnered positive statements on patriotism and love of country particularly from the second-generation members of the Filipino community.

During the Open Forum, Ms. Ria Regina S. Limjap, Associate Producer of Artikulo Uno and Researcher of the film Heneral Luna, replied to inquiries regarding all aspects of the movie and the actual facts related to the life and death of Gen. Luna and the Philippine historical period depicted in the movie.

The Ambassador also took the opportunity to remind the Filipino nationals in the audience to do their civic duty and cast their votes in the ongoing overseas voting for the 2016 National Elections.

The Heneral Luna public screening in Berne was made possible due to the extensive collaboration of the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy in Berne and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). END
