27 April 2016 - Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua joined the joint call of ASEAN Ambassadors to the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on 20 May 2016 in Nay Pyi Taw.
Ambassador Chua conveyed to Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi the felicitations of the Philippine government and the Filipino people. He highlighted the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Myanmar bilateral relations and expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries will further strengthen as we move forward to an ASEAN Community. Ambassador Chua also expressed hope that the Union Minister will visit the Philippines especially during the Philippine Chairmanship of the ASEAN in 2017.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi reiterated Myanmar’s commitment to actively participate in regional and international affairs. On bilateral relations with the Philippines, she underscored the long and shared history of Myanmar with the Philippines.
Nobel Peace Laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar’s first civilian government in five decades. She was sworn in on March 30. END
