MANAMA LABOR 1

05 May 2016 – The Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in the Kingdom of Bahrain celebrated Labor Day and the 34th Anniversary of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) with a Flag Raising Ceremony, and a short program at the Embassy lobby on May 01. The Labor Day theme this year is “Kinabukasan Sigurado sa Disenteng Trabaho”. Embassy personnel and Filipino community leaders attended the event.

During the program, Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver read the Labor Day message of President Benigno S. Aquino III, while Labor Attache Cynthia Q. Lamban read the message of DOLE Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz. OWWA Welfare Officer Priscilla M. Flores read the 34th Anniversary message of OWWA Administrator Rebecca J. Calzado.

Ambassador Ver likewise provided updates on Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) and urged the FilCom leaders to encourage other registered voters to cast their votes before May 09. Mr. Edre G. Bayno of Social Security System (SSS) also gave updates regarding the new loan structuring/condonation program of SSS, particularly those who are from calamity stricken areas. Pinay Ikaw Na President, Ms. Antonette G. Avila gave updates on the upcoming Philippine Fiesta, organized by the Filipino Community in celebration of 118th Philippine Independence.

The event ended with the unfurling of POLO-OWWA’s Labor Day and OWWA Annversary tarpaulins and community breakfast. END
