12 May 2016 - The Eskuwelahang Munti ng Guam (EMG), held its 13th graduation ceremony on May 07 at the Cultural Affairs Section of the Consulate General.
EMG has conducted Filipino language and culture classes for seven years led by Principal Milagros K. Moguel, and volunteer teachers, Mrs. Gloria Baguinon, Dr. Clarissa Quan, and Mrs. Ciony Viray. For 2016, the 13th Session started on February 16. A total of fourteen students, divided into two age groups, successfully completed the Filipino language and culture course.
Both groups showcased their newly acquired knowledge and talent during the graduation ceremony. Mr. Norman Analista, one of the adult students, sang an OPM song while another group performed their version of the “Maglalatik” during the program.
Philippine Consul General to Agana Marciano R. de Borja, together with Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy, and Ms. Nita Baldovino, President of the Filipino Community of Guam, graced the program and handed over the certificates of completion to the graduating students.
Consul General De Borja personally thanked and commended the volunteer teachers and the Filipino Cultural Center for their great support and continued partnership with the Philippine Consulate General in promoting and inculcating in the minds of Filipino-American children the Filipino values, traditions, culture and particularly the Filipino language. He also thanked them for their efforts, hard work, patience and giving their extra time to run the Eskwelahang Munti.
EMG’s primary goal is to provide the students with a variety of experiences that will contribute to their social, physical, and intellectual formation particularly by teaching the Filipino-American students the Filipino language.
Part of the highlights of the commencement program was the turn over by Ms. Veronica Alave, President of the UST Alumni Association, of a check amounting to US$ 500 and by Ms. Nita Baldovino, President of Filipino Community of Guam, of a check amounting to US$ 1,000, to EMG Principal Mila Moguel as their donation to EMG.END
