17 May 2016 - The Philippine Embassy honored Ms. Jovianne Francisco, an incoming 11th grader at the Philippines School Bahrain after she won First Prize in the Film Making Category (14-17 years old) at the recent Nasser bin Hamad Youth Creativity Awards.

More than 5,000 contestants from 111 countries competed in Architecture, Art, Science, Filmmaking, Graphic Design and Photography under the patronage of Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, son of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. Shaikh Nasser is also the Chair of Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.

Jovianne Francisco wrote, directed and shot her winning work, entitled “Tears from Heaven,” a 16-minute short film on young love featuring her classmates at Emmery Lawan and Cyra Panteleon, as the leading performers and Ma. Carmella Solido as Assistant Director and Assistant Cameraman, and her mother, Angie Francisco, as all-around Production and Support Staff. Jovianne bested the finalists from Egypt and Spain to get the first prize trophy and US$7,000 prize money. Jovianne hopes to continue to develop her filmmaking skills and study graphic design and filmmaking in the Philippines. END
