17 May 2016 - Dr. Felipe de Leon, Jr., Chairman of the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Myanmar’s Daw Nanda Hmun, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, signed an Executive Program on Cultural Cooperation on May 13 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

The Executive Program, the first agreement between the Philippines and Myanmar to be signed during the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Philippines-Myanmar bilateral relations, aims to further develop and strengthen the Philippines’ cultural cooperation with Myanmar under the purview of the 1998 Agreement on Cultural Cooperation. Among other things, the Executive Program calls for cultural and arts exchanges, literature, and cooperation in the field of archives and architecture, and film and television.

Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua, who witnessed the signing ceremony, expressed hope that the Executive Program will provide for a more active Cultural Cooperation that will serve to strengthen people-to-people linkages and promote mutual understanding. END
