18 May 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Korea Raul S. Hernandez spoke on May 04 before 98 visiting junior students from the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) at the Capitol Hotel, Seoul as part of their five-day educational and cultural tour of South Korea on May 02 to 06.

Accompanied by members of the faculty led by the Regent, Rev. Fr. Romulo V. Rodriguez, O.P., and Prof. Amy Mia Turaray, Assistant Dean of the College, the students listened to the 45-minute presentation by Ambassador Hernandez on current trends in Philippines-Korea bilateral relations, particularly on the two countries’ security, defense and economic cooperation.

Ambassador Hernandez also emphasized the numerous activities undertaken by the Philippine Embassy since he started his tenure as its head in May 2014 under the three pillars of Philippine economic policy.

Since the meeting was held a few days before the general elections in the Philippines, Ambassador Hernandez briefly spoke about the Philippine Embassy’s Overseas Absentee Voting efforts to encourage the 14,100 Filipinos who have registered in Korea to exercise their right of suffrage. 

He also took the opportunity to encourage students to vote wisely, seek the advice of school leaders and the elderly in choosing the future leaders who will lead the Philippines towards more inclusive development.

Before the start of the program, the delegation presented a song entitled; “Annyeonghaseyo Korea.” An original composition by the group who won the best marketing video in a recent college competition before their trip to Korea. END
