19 May 2016 - At a ceremony held on May 11 at the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City, Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Eduardo Jose A. de Vega formally presented his Letter of Credence to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, thus officially securing recognition as the fully-accredited PHL Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Mexican States.

With Mexico´s Foreign Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas by his side, President Peña Nieto also received from the undersigned the Letter of Recall of his predecessor, Ambassador Catalino R. Dilem, Jr.

In a brief conversation with Ambassador de Vega after receiving his credentials, President Peña Nieto warmly greeted the Filipino nation and thanked President Benigno S. Aquino III and his Government for the hospitality and support they had extended to him and his delegation during his State Visit to the Philippines in November 2015.

The Mexican President also took note of the just concluded May 09 national and local elections in the Philippines and inquired on the country´s political and electoral processes.  He also referred to the strong historical and cultural links between both countries and wished all the best for the Filipino people. He was confident that Mexican-Philippine relations will remain strong under the new incoming Administration.

The undersigned was joined by 18 other resident ambassadors who took their turns in presenting their credentials to the Mexican President during the approximately three-hour long program. 

In a conference with Mexican media representatives after presenting his credentials, Ambassador de Vega highlighted the deep and enduring historical, political, economic and socio-cultural ties that unite the Filipino and Mexican peoples and conveyed the assurance that the bilateral relations between the two nations will continue to prosper in the years ahead.
