24 May 2016 - The Philippine Embassy in London kicked-off its celebration of Philippine Heritage Month and the 70th Anniversary of Philippine-UK Diplomatic Relations with a well-received screening of the most successful and highest grossing Filipino historical-biographical film Heneral Luna.

With a matinee and gala screening on May 15 at the renowned Regent Street Cinema, the birthplace of British Cinema, Heneral Luna enthralled the Filipino-British audience during its limited run.

Speaking before a full-house on both screenings, Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Evan P. Garcia cited the growing international recognition conferred on a number of Philippine-made films and called on the audience to continue supporting Filipino films. The Ambassador also expressed appreciation to Lahing Kayumanggi and the Wonder Foundation for partnering with the Embassy in bringing Heneral Luna to London.

Lahing Kayumanggi is a London-based dance company that promotes Philippine cultural heritage through music, song, and dance. It is a recipient of the Presidential Banaag Award in 2006 “in recognition of its unwavering dedication to artistic excellence, raising the cultural awareness and ethnic pride of the Filipino community in the United Kingdom, and supporting cultural and humanitarian activities in the Philippines.” The Wonder Foundation has been supportive of Philippine charities focusing on the empowerment and education of women.
