Yangon Food Festival201 October 2013 - The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, in partnership with Traders Hotel Yangon and Shangri-la Hotel Manila, organized a Filipino Food Fiesta from September 21 to 28 at the Traders Café, Traders Hotel Yangon in Myanmar.

The launching of the Filipino Food Fiesta on September 21 was graced by ASEAN Ambassadors and their spouses, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (UMFCCI) President U Win Aung, other UMFCCI officials.

Philippine companies with existing presence in Myanmar, such as Uni Pharma, Del Monte, Liwayway, Cherry Mobile, Waterstone and Golden Wood, exhibited their products and displayed their company profile during the weeklong event.  Volunteers from the Filipino community in Myanmar provided the cultural performances such as Bulaklakan and Cariñosa dances during the launching and throughout the festive week to provide entertainment to the diners at Traders Hotel.

Mr. Rico Venzon, a Filipino chef from the Shangri-la Hotel Manila, shared his culinary expertise in introducing traditional and authentic Filipino cuisine in Myanmar such as lechon, adobo, pinakbet, sisig, kare-kare and halo-halo, to name a few.


To highlight the event, the entrance of the restaurant was beautifully designed with an arch covered with native mat “banig” with a hanging Philippine Christmas Lantern “parol.”  Philippine tourism banners were also displayed in the restaurant’s entrance.  Adding to the festive mode of the event are the colorful “banderitas” waving inside the venue and a Filipino ice cream cart.

“The Filipino Food Fiesta was a special opportunity to promote Filipino cuisine and culture in Myanmar in support of strengthening regional friendship and cooperation for the ASEAN Community by 2015,” said Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua in his short remarks during the launching of the Filipino Food Fiesta. END
