24 May 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Australia Minda Calaguian-Cruz and Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis met with the Philippine delegation to CeBIT Australia 2016 during the CeBIT Exhibition held at the Sydney Olympic Park in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, from May 02 to 04 May.
CeBIT is the largest business technology event in Australia featuring an exhibition, conferences, workshops, and networking forum for individuals, companies and government agencies engaged in business and IT.
According to CeBIT organizers, the event this year drew 15,000 attendees and featured more than 300 companies and organizations worldwide including participants from the Philippines.
The Philippine delegation comprised Ms. Genny Incencio-Marcial, Executive Director of the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), Ms. Emmy Lou Versoza-Delfin, Program Manager, ICT Industry Development Program of the DOST, and representatives from the following 11 IBPAP member-companies: Acquire BPO, First Maritime Shared Services, Magellan Solutions, Personiv, Pointwest Technologies Corp., Shore Solutions, Sitel Philippines Corporation, Startek, SPi Global, TaskUs Inc., and Teleperformance Australia Pty Ltd.
On May 03, the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney and the Australia-Philippine Business Council (APBC) co-hosted a Welcome Reception for the Philippine delegation to CeBIT. The reception was attended by more than 40 representatives from Australian companies. In her remarks at the event, Consul General Louis encouraged the guests from the Australian private sector to look at the Philippines as a choice business destination by tapping the expertise and services offered by PHL IT-BPM companies.
IBPAP Executive Director Marcial delivered a presentation on the state of the IT-BPM industry in the Philippines and future prospects. DOST-ICT Program Director Delfin presented the Philippine Government’s program in support of the industry, as well as the legal and institutional framework that will back government assistance to encourage industry growth.
The welcome and networking reception gave IBPAP member companies the opportunity to meet representatives from Australian companies interested in business prospects in the Philippines’ IT-BPM sector.
According to IBPAP, which has participated in CeBIT in Sydney for the past 8 years, 9% of the total income generated by the Philippine IT and BPM industry comes from Australia and there is potential for growth. END
