26 May 2016 - Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Junever Mahilum-West attended the inauguration of the Friendly Services Center for Domestic Migrant Workers (The Center) held at Jabal Al-Nasser, Amman, Jordan. The Center is a project of the Future Pioneers for Empowering Community Members (Future Pioneers), a non-government organization based in Jordan, under the patronage of the Hon. Taghreed Hikmat, member of the Jordanian senate, and Eng. Obyda Hummash, Executive Director of Future Pioneers. It also receives assistance from the European Union, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and Jordan Red Crescent Society.
One of the activities of The Center is to give orientation briefings for migrant workers to help them acclimatize to life in Jordan. The Center published, as an initial project, a "Terminology Guide for Domestic Workers," which translates basic Arabic phrases into Filipino, Bengali and the Sri Lankan language.
During the event, MP Wafa Bani Mustafa, Chair of the Coalition of Women MPs from Arab Countries to Combat Violence Against Women, also presented the proposed modifications to Jordan's anti-human trafficking law with the aim of aligning Jordan's domestic legislation with international treaty commitments.
