02 June 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto joined Filipino students as they celebrated Asian Canadian Heritage Month through an event entitled, “2016 Proudly Pinoy: Strengthening Families.” The event was organized by the Toronto Catholic District School Board at the St. Maria Goretti Catholic School in Scarborough, Toronto.
The event included parent and student workshops on managing transitions, education issues, relationship issues and tips from role models. It also showcased cultural performances by young Filipino talents.
In her remarks, Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero indicated that the event provided an opportunity to further look into Filipino identity in Canada. She said that Filipinos contribute a vibrant and colorful strand in Canada’s cultural diversity. She also expressed delight in seeing young generation of Filipinos engaged and involved in the propagation of Philippine culture through arts, music and dances. She said that this augurs well for the future of the Filipino community in Canada. END
