02 June 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration-Hong Kong Sub Office (IOM-Hong Kong), conducted a counter-trafficking training workshop for the Filipino Community on May 15 at the Consulate General’s Conference Room.

Mr. Simon Lo, Acting Head of IOM-Hong Kong, and Mr. Michael Li, Project Assistant of IOM-Hong Kong, discussed the basic concepts on human trafficking and facilitated a case study during the workshop.

During her opening remarks, Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Bernardita L. Catalla emphasized the importance of the Filipino Community’s awareness on human trafficking in order to help identify potential victims. She also encouraged the participants to become advocates of counter trafficking.

Close to 50 members of the Filipino Community attended the workshop and shared their views and personal experiences in dealing with human trafficking cases.

The event is a follow-up to the Echo Training on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) for the Filipino Community held on May 02 at the Consulate General.

The Consulate General and IOM-Hong Kong have agreed to organize continuing workshops on human trafficking this year to deepen the knowledge of interested individuals with the view to forming a corps of counter trafficking advocates among members of the Filipino Community in Hong Kong. END
