02 June 2016 -The Philippine Embassy in Rome attended the vernissage of the Philippine Pavilion at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice on May 27.
Senator Loren Legarda opened the exhibition. She was joined by officials from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
For its historic first participation, nine heritage buildings and landmarks were featured in the Philippine Pavilion’s exhibition, “Muhon: Traces of an Adolescent City.” The Philippine exhibition was a collaborative work of the curatorial team from the Leandro Locsin Partners (LVLP) along with six architects and three contemporary visual artists.
The Philippine Pavilion was divided into three rooms where the nine heritage and cultural markers were interpreted in three ways, its original state (History), present condition (Modernity) and the projected future (Conjecture).
Through the exhibition, the curatorial team composed of Leandro Locsin Jr, Sudarshan Khadka, Jr. and Juan Paolo de la Cruz, encouraged the audience to “take a step back, to pause and to contemplate on the Filipinos’ built heritage.” Muhon compels the public to think about the hasty creation and destruction of Metro Manila’s built heritage.
This year’s theme for the Architecture Biennale, “Reporting from the Front,” focuses on the improvement of the quality of built environment and the people’s quality of life. The Architecture Biennale aims to exhibit success stories worth to be told and exemplary cases worth to be shared where architecture made a difference in the various communities and in people’s lives.
The exhibit housed in Palazzo Mora will run until November 27 and is open to the public from 10 AM to 6 PM daily except on Tuesdays.
The Filipino Community is invited and encouraged to visit the Philippine Pavilion. END
