08 June 2016 – In commemoration of the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi highlighted political and economic gains of the Philippines in recent years as well as the strong bilateral ties between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the Embassy’s diplomatic reception at the Dar El Istiqbal (Grand Ballroom), Intercontinental Abu Dhabi on June 01.
“As we reflect on the value of our freedom, we remain committed in our efforts to preservation of peace and promoting the well-being and solidarity of our country and people,” said Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Constancio R. Vingno, Jr.
The Ambassador also noted the strong ties between the Philippines and the UAE as both sides celebrate the 36th anniversary of bilateral ties, which was established in June 1980. “Both the Philippines and the UAE are experiencing strong economic growth in their respective regions…We also share the same dream for our countrymen: an inclusive and progressive nation. We are also one in rejecting extremist ideologies. Furthermore, both our countries have had outstanding gains in the area of competitiveness, human rights and gender equality.”
His Excellency Khalid Ghanem Al Ghaith, Assistant Minister for Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) represented the UAE leadership during the event. More than 300 attended including members of the diplomatic corps, leaders of the Filipino community, personalities from the business sector and the media also attended the event.
The event also included an art exhibition which showcased the talents of select Filipino artists and designers in painting, photography, jewelry and bag design. They include Xyza Cruz Bacani, Rico Tompong, Esmi Pangilinan, Susan Villanueva – De Guzman, Dee Dipon. Patricia Zyrinn De Guzman and Anna Rubio.
During the event, Filipino food and delicacies were also showcased courtesy of Max’s Restaurant, Chowking Orient Restaurant, Jollibee, Al Pinoy Golden Restaurant, and La Comida Express Gourmet and Catering. END
