15 June 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago reports on the visit of Mercibelle Barroso-Abejuela from the Bukidnon State University (BSU) to Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois last June 08.  This follows the BSU delegation’s visit to the NIU last October 27, 2014 as part of the ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities. Consul Ricarte Abejuela III accompanied Mrs. Abejuela during her trip to NIU.

Mrs. Abejuela was received by Dr. Sue Russell and Dr. Lina Davide-Ong of the NIU’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies and International Training Office, respectively.

Dr. Russel, a faculty member of the NIU, will visit BSU for a short training program and will also donate anthropology books and journals that she has written to BSU.

These activities are the result of continuous efforts of the Consulate General to promote academic linkages between Philippine and Midwestern universities.

In relation to the signed MOU, a follow up visit by BSU officials to NIU occurred on October 27, 2014.  In June of 2015, the NIU sent over two of their graduate students to Malaybalay City for an immersion program. The two students were hosted by BSU while in Malaybalay City.  An official from NIU also made a visit to BSU in August 2015. END
