15 June 2016 - The 2016 Cultural Program was the highlight during the Diplomatic Reception hosted by the Embassy of the Philippines in Ankara, Turkey to commemorate the 118th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. The Cultural Program mostly consisted of seven favorite folk dances from the different provinces in the Philippines, namely, Nasudi, Bulaklakan, Takik, Subli, Banga, Kapagapir and Tinikling. The dances were performed gracefully and skillfully by Filipino workers and students in Turkey who sacrificed their much deserved rest days perfecting the dances that showcase just how rich the Philippines is when it comes to culture, tradition and history.
From the dances that highlight the tradition of ethnic groups in the Philippines to dances that are influenced by the Catholic and Muslim faiths in the country, the Cultural Program of the Philippine Embassy in Ankara’s Diplomatic Reception aimed to emphasize the fact that in the Philippines, there is unity in diversity, and there is inclusivity for all. The Cultural Program officially closed with the community singing of the song titled "Tagumpay Nating Lahat" by Lea Salonga. The program was applauded by more than 300 guests, most of whom postponed enjoying the Filipino food available during the reception until the last performance was finished.
“Our community groups from Ankara and Istanbul put together a wonderful cultural program for us to showcase the aspects of our cultural traditions and values which are not only similar but the same, such as strong family ties, love of music and dance, and helping each other. I thank our community for their outstanding work”, said Ambassador Sanchez. END
