15 June 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Philippine Ladies Circle Abu Dhabi, opened a Philippine Art Exhibit on June 05 at the Millennium Corniche Hotel, Abu Dhabi.
The exhibit, dubbed “Expressions,” featured five Filipino artists, namely, Xyza Cruz Bacani (street and documentary photographer), Rico Tompong (Angono artist), and UAE-based Esmi Pangilinan, Susan Villanueva-De Guzman, and Dee Dipon. Celebrity bag designer Anna Rubio’s clutch bags were also showcased during the opening.
Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. and Millennium Corniche Hotel General Manager Nemo Acimovic welcomed guests from the diplomatic corps and other special guests at the event.
In her remarks, Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno, Chair of the Philippine Ladies Circle Abu Dhabi, said that, leading to the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12, her group organized the exhibit to promote Philippine art. She hoped that the exhibit will serve as a window for highlighting and celebrating Philippine culture and heritage.
Madame Vingno thanked the guest artists for sharing their ingenuity and brilliant works. “Our guest artists have raised the level of Filipino talent by receiving international recognition for their works. Their love for art and country are a testament to their invaluable contribution to Philippine and world art,” she said.
Madame Vingno also thanked Philippine Airlines, ITL World and Eram Group Co., Millennium Corniche Hotel, and MindMill Ideation Co. for support. The week-long exhibit ran for public viewing until June 11. END
