15 June 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon celebrated with the Filipino Community (FilCom) the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 60th Anniversary of Philippines-Myanmar Bilateral Relations on June 12 at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon.

In his opening speech, Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua commended the FiliCom for participating in the recently concluded overseas voting which saw a high voter turnout for Myanmar. He likewise thanked the Filipinos in Myanmar for contributing to the development of the Philippines and furthering its relations with Myanmar through their world-class skills and talents.

The celebration, attended by nearly 250 guests, evoked a poignant expression of patriotism among Filipinos with the heartwarming rendition of Vehnee Saturno’s Isang Lahi, Huseng Batute’s Bayan Ko, The Hotdogs’ Manila, and Leah Navarro’s Isang Mundo, Isang Awit. Ambassador Chua and Madam Marla Chua punctuated the celebration with a performance of Ryan Cayabyab’s Araw Gabi. END
