15 June 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz paid a courtesy call on the leader of the Lebanese Forces Party Dr. Samir Geagea on June 08 at his Party’s headquarters in Maarab, Kaserwan District, to brief him on the latest developments in Philippines-Lebanon relations.

She highlighted in particular the Embassy’s efforts to promote the rights and welfare of Filipino migrants in Lebanon, who are working mostly in the Lebanese households. The Embassy’s initiatives also include cultural activities, which aim to promote mutual understanding and appreciation between the Filipino and Lebanese peoples.

Ambassador Ruiz cited the year 2016 as a banner year for bilateral relations because on October 24, both countries will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Dr. Geagea welcomed the initiatives of the Philippine Embassy and stressed that his party wholeheartedly supports efforts to intensify cooperation in all aspects of the relationship.

Both sides exchanged gift items showing national scenes (i.e., a hand-blown glass depicting the Philippine national dance “tinikling” and a book on the world-famous Holy Valley or Ouadi Qadisha of Lebanon). END
