16 June 2016 - The Philippine Embassy in Athens successfully hosted the “Meet My Country (MMC): The Philippines” at the Philippine Ambassador’s Official Residence on June 13.

The Meet My Country (MMC) event is an important activity of the Women’s International Club (WIC) of Athens, where the group invites an Embassy to present its country and highlight various aspects of its culture

The WIC is led by its President, Ms. Cristina Butler, and its membership is composed of Ambassadors’ spouses, spouses of Greek government officials and business people, as well as key personalities in the Greek cultural and social strata.

The theme of the “Philippine Embassy’s MMC: The Philippines” is the Filipino Fiesta and the Philippine Ambassador’s official residence was decorated with bamboo arches, buntings and flaglets.

Entertainment was provided by musical performers from the Philippines, courtesy of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), who serenaded the guest with kundiman favorites and popular Filipino songs.

The Tinguians of Abra in Greece (TAG), an Athens-based Filipino community organization of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Abra, also provided entertainment by performing a traditional tinguian dance, in full costume, with gangsa music as background.

Foods and drink served during the event are popular fiesta fares such as lechon, pancit, halo-halo, buko pandan, lambanog, mango nectar and San Miguel beer. END
