17 June 2016 – The Philippines celebrated Independence Day in Kathmandu, Nepal in coordination with the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Kathmandu, headed by Philippine Honorary Consul General Suraj Vaidya.

Around 250 guests filled the Soaltee Hotel ballroom in Kathmandu for the independence day celebration.  Notable attendees were Chief Guest Deputy Prime Minister C.P. Mainali, and General Rajendra Chhetri, Chief of Staff of the Nepalese Army. The diplomatic corps, Nepali government officials, representatives from the private and business sector also graced the occasion, as well as members of the Filipino community in Kathmandu.

The cultural evening began with the remarks by Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza, followed by a repertoire of classical and Philippine melodies performed by Chennai-based pianist Alexandra Minosa and Manila-based soprano Anna Migallos, made possible with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

The Filipino community in Kathmandu also highlighted their talents by showcasing Filipino Muslim dances dayang-dayang, pagapir and singkil. One number presented a Philippine-Spanish fusion interpretation of flamenco to the tune of Ang Dalagang Pilipina, played by live instruments. To cap the night, Ako ay Pilipino was sung by a younger member of the Filipino community, followed by a reception and numerous photo opportunities. END
