17 June 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Leslie J. Baja hosted a reception on June 01 to celebrate the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Egypt relations which began on March 03, 1946.

In his remarks, Ambassador Baja noted that Egypt and the Philippines share many common values including non-alignment and peaceful settlement of disputes. He noted that the presence of close to 4,500 Filipinos in Egypt has cemented the relations of the two countries throughout the last 70 years.

For his part, Assistant Foreign Minister Yasser Morad, the Guest of Honor during the reception, noted that seven decades of diplomatic relations have witnessed many achievements on the political and cultural fronts.

The reception, held at the prestigious Conrad Cairo Hotel, was attended by around 200 members of the Egyptian government, diplomatic corps and leaders of the Filipino community. END
