17 June 2016 - For the first time in its history, the Filipino Community in Ethiopia (FCE) organized and celebrated the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12 with the presence of Ambassador Leslie Baja, non-resident ambassador to Ethiopia. The FCE organized the event in coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Cairo. 

Close to 200 Filipinos from all over Ethiopia took part in the event which was highlighted by the speech of Ambassador Baja. He exhorted the Filipinos to strengthen their unity and camaraderie for their greater good, stressing that they are the better ambassadors of the Philippines in Ethiopia.

The Filipino community, for their part, thanked the Ambassador and the Embassy for their regular contacts with them. The Filipinos in Ethiopia, numbering around 800, mostly work as technical and vocational instructors, international civil servants, and spouses of Ethiopians. END
